(07/028) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from news coverage of July 3, 2018 that 2 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in Giresun on May 27, 2018; and 2 militants died in a clash in Tunceli on June 2, 2018.

(07/029) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of June 3, 2018 that, CHP MP’s visiting Eren Erdem, former CHP Istanbul MP who was arrested on June 29, 2018 and was put to Silivri Prison, are not allowed to meet him based on physical situations of the prison.

(07/030) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 3, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 3, 2018, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Umutcan Aybak) and at 18.00 3 people (Acun Karadağ, Mehmet Dersulu and Mahmut Konuk) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on July 3, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(07/031) Police Intervention into a Protest in Istanbul…

It is learned that the police intervened into and detained 17 people who protest demolishing of their houses on the grounds that they were built illegally, in Türkoba neighbourhood of Istanbul’s Büyükçekmece district, on July 3, 2018.

(07/032) SGDF Executive Arrested in Istanbul…

Özge Doğan, central executive board member of Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) and Ali Karaçay, member of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) who were detained in Istanbul on June 29, 2018, are arrested by the court on July 3, 2018.

(07/033) DBP Co-chair on Trial…

The case against Sebahat Tuncel, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) co-chair, and Aysel Tuğluk, People’s Democratic Party (HDP) co-deputy, for attending Abdullah Öcalan’s birthday events, in 2013, on Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 6 is held on July 3, 2018. The court adjourned the trial to October 2, 2018.

(07/034) HDP and DBP Members on Trial…

The case against 28 members of People’s Democratic Party (HDP) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP), including HDP Ardahan co-chair Ergün Koç and DBP Ardahan co-chair Hakan Demirbaş, on Ardahan Heavy Penal Court is held on July 3, 2018. The court adjourned the trial to October 2, 2018.

(07/035) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against cameraman Kemal Demir from TV10 channel, which was closed down by the state of emergency decree, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 28 is held on July 3, 2018. The court decided to continue detention for Kemal Demir and sent the case to Mersin based on rejection of venue.

(07/036) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

4 of 27 people for whom a detention warrant was issued through an Ankara based investigation; 3 military personnel from Army Aviation Command in Ankara; 13 people including 12 military members on active duty in operations covering 9 cities through an Erzurum based investigation; and 5 people in Edirne, alleged to illegally flee, are detained on July 3, 2018.

It is learned that on July 3, 2018, a detention warrant is issued for 26 military members including 6 lieutenants, through a Çanakkale based investigation; and that operations are initiated.

Muhammet Kaya, former deputy governor of Kilis, who were detained through an Erzurum based investigation, is arrested by the court on July 3, 2018.

(07/037) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against former lieutenant colonel Sefer Eyüp Şensoy, commander of Motorized Infantry Brigade No 1 in Pertek, and against former lieutenant Erdem Çalışkan on Tunceli Heavy Penal Court No 2 is held on July 3, 2018. The court sentenced 2 defendants to heavy life penalty for ‘attempting to demolish the constitutional order’. The court also sentenced 2 defendants to 10 years each, for ‘deprivation of liberty’ crime against Pertek sub-governor Erkan Kaçmaz and Pertek public prosecutor Muhittin Atlı, for keeping them in brigade by deceit and force.

The final trial of the case against 3 former deputy police chiefs (Servet Çakıl, Celal Aymaz and Mehmet Bilen) dismissed by the state of emergency decree, on Bitlis Heavy Penal Court No 2 is held on July 3, 2018. The court sentenced 3 defendants to 13 years and 6 months each for ‘being an illegal organisation’.

The final trial of the case against 6 defendants on Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 6 is held on July 3, 2018. The court sentenced 6 defendants to jail penalties differing from 2 years 3 months and 15 days to 9 years and 9 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
