It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2019 that, 1 HPG militant died due to the bombardment of Turkish Armed Forces to Haqurq on My 28, 2019.

(05/390) Interventions to Prisoners Who Ended Hunger Strike in Prisons…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2019 that, 3 prisoners who ended hunger strike in Bakırköy L Type Women’s Prison were referred to the hospital and were taken back to the prison after blood drawing. It is reported that other prisoners who ended hunger strike were not taken to hospital yet.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2019 that, prisoners who ended hunger strike in Bandırma T Type Prison No 1 and 2 were not referred to hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2019 that, prisoners who ended hunger strike in Bursa H Type Prison were taken to hospital by prison shuttle and were taken back to prison without being treated.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2019 that prisoners who ended hunger strike in Kandıra F Type No 1 and 2 and Kandıra F Type prisons were not referred to hospital.

It is learned from May 30, 2019 that prisoners who ended hunger strike in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison were taken to hospital by prison shuttle and were taken back to prison after several health tests but without being treated.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2019 that prisoners who ended hunger strike in Amasya E Type Prison were taken to hospital by prison shuttle but they were forced to be examined in handcuffs. Upon this the prisoners accepted only blood drawing and then were taken back to prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2019 prisoner who ended hunger strike in Tokat T Type Prison were not referred to hospital and were given improper food.

(05/391) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 933 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on May 30, 2019 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on May 30, 2019, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and İlker Işık) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on May 30, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(05/392) Police Intervention to a Protest in Düzce…

On May 30, 2019, the police intervened the sit-in protest of Alev Şahin, who rallies in Düzce in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree and detained Alev Şahin. It is learned that Alev Şahin was released on the same day. With the last intervention, Alev Şahin has been detained for 18 times so far.

Orhan Hazar, 1 of 7 people who were detained on May 23, 2019 in house raids in Mersin is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on May 30, 2019. 6 people (TAUYDER executive Celal Yel, Fatmagül Demirdağ, Nazan Dündar, Havva Tekin, Hacı Yılmaz and Cengiz Dere) are released on judicial control conditions.

(05/394) Kemal Kurkut Case…

The case against police officer Y.Ş., for killing university student Kemal Kurkut by shooting him behind his back during Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır in 2017, is held on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 7 on May 30, 2019. Police officer Y.Ş. is charged with ‘killing on probable intention’ and the indictment demands life imprisonment for this charge.

The court decided to ask a new report from The Forensic Medicine Institution, on the grounds of a discrepancy between the reports of The Forensic Medicine Institution and of National Criminal Bureau, and adjourned the trial to October 24, 2019.

(05/395) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The separate cases against 4 academicians (Assoc. Professor Umut Azak from Okan University, Research Assistant Erdem Üngür from Kültür University, Aslı Odman from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, E.D. from Işık University) for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 32 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ are held on May 30, 2019. The court adjourned all trials to June 1, 2019.

The case against Assist. Professor Filiz Arıöz from Marmara University for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 on May 30, 2019. The court sentenced Filiz Arıöz to 1 year and 3 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

The case against Research Assistant Ozan Değer from Ankara University for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 on May 30, 2019. The court decided to send the case to Ankara Heavy Penal Court on the grounds of lack of venue.

The case against Assoc. Professor Tezcan Durna from Ankara University for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 on May 30, 2019. The court sentenced Tezcan Durna to 1 year and 3 months for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(05/396) The Case Against Academician Bülent Şık…

The case against Assist. Professor Bülent Şık, Bianet news portal writer, food engineer, and a signatory of the petition “We will not be a party to this crime”, for declaring a report of the Ministry of Health, which covers a research on cancer conducted in Antalya, Ergene and Dilovası in between 2011-2015, is held on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on May 30, 2019. The findings of the report were not published by Ministry of Health, although it was carried out by the Ministry of Health, Public Health Agency of Turkey. Assist. Professor Bülent Şık then declared the findings of the report in an article series “The State conceals carcinogen products; we are concealing them! This is the list of poisonous products!”.

The indictment demands a penalty of imprisonment for a term of 5 years to 12 years for Bülent Şık on the charges of ‘disclosure of secrets about duty’, ‘provision of prohibited information’ and ‘disclosure of prohibited information’.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to September 26, 2019.

(05/397) Journalist and Others on Trial in Adana…

The first trial of the case against 20 people including journalist Filiz Zeyrek, who reported on condolence service of Şemdin Eye, an YPG militant who died in 2015; and Şemdin Eye’s mother and father, is held on Adana Heavy Penal Court No 13 on May 30, 2019. The court released Filiz Zeyrek, who was the only arrested defendant, and adjourned the trial to September 24, 2019.

Filiz Zeyrek was detained in Greece on February and was arrested by the court after being deported to Turkey.

The case against Çetin Kurşun from Azadiya Welat newspaper and his brother Sedat Kurşun is held on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 2 on May 30, 2019. Çetin Kurşun was arrested in Kızıltepe district of Mardin on February 6, 2018. The court sentenced Çetin Kurşun to 3 years for ‘successive propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and released him upon verdict. The court acquitted Sedat Kurşun.

(05/399) Ban to Access to a Website…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2019 that, two different entries about Şule Çet’s death, on Ekşi Sözlük web-based dictionary, are banned to access by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 2, on the demand of Çağatay Aksu who is one of the suspects of the case.

Şule Çet has died due to falling from Yelken Plaza in Ankara on May 29, which was a suspicious case and as a result of findings of sexual assault and DNA profiles from the investigation on this suspicious death, a case was opened against Berk Akand and Çağatay Aksu.

(05/400) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 152 people about the incidents at Army Aviation Command during July 15 coup attempt, is held on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 17 on May 30, 2019. The court sentenced former colonel Uğur Kapan to 29 times of heavy life imprisonment for ‘violating the Constitution’ and ‘attempt to kill’, and to 3.932 years for ‘attempt to kill’ and ‘deprivation of liberty’. The court sentenced former colonel Oğuz Yalçın and sergeant İlhan Ocakcıoğlu to 29 times heavy life imprisonment and 3.856 years each for ‘attempt to kill’. The court sentenced 2 people to 25 times heavy life imprisonment each, 9 people to 24 times heavy life imprisonment each, 2 people to 6 times heavy life imprisonment each and 40 people to heavy life imprisonment for ‘violating the institution’. The court sentenced 18 people to life imprisonment on the same charge. The court sentenced 34 people to jail penalties from 12 years and 6 months to 18 years for ‘aiding the coup attempt’. The court sentenced 11 people to jail penalties from 1 year and 6 months to 7 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court separated the cases against 2 fugitives and acquitted 31 people.
