(07/001) Child Died Due to Rollover Crash of a Military Vehicle…

It is learned that, a child named A. Ö. (16, m) died due to rollover crash of the armoured military vehicle, which carry 12 villagers who were detained for ‘smuggling’ in Andaç village of Şırnak’s Uludere district, on June 29, 2018. It is also learned that 13 people including 2 soldiers were wounded.

(07/002) Civilian Died in Ardahan…

It is learned that shepherd İsmail Karakaş died due to gunfire of security forces in rural areas of Samandöken village in Göle district of Ardahan. Ardahan Governorate made a declaration and announced that judicial and administrative inquiry on İsmail Karakaş’s death is initiated.

(07/003) Civilian Died in Ağrı…

It is learned from news coverage of July 1, 2018 that, the responsibility of the death of Mevlüt Bengi, who was kidnapped by anonymous people in Çiftlik village of Ağrı’s Doğubayazıt district on June 24, 2018; and was found dead and tied up to a lightning pole near Yangınyurt village in the same district on June 27, 2018, is taken by HPG.

(07/004) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from news coverage of June 29, 2018 that 4 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Tunceli on June 2, 2018. It is also learned that 1 militant died in rural areas of Tunceli during March.

It is reported that 1 soldier who was wounded in Hakkari on June 12, 2018, died in hospital on July 1, 2018.

(07/005) Prisoner Died in Prison…

Former police chief of Bolu, Zeki Güven, who was arrested through “Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation / Parallel State Structure” investigation, died in Sincan F Type Prison 1, on July 1, 2018. It is claimed on news coverage that Zeki Güven died due to heart attack.

(07/006) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of June 29, 2018 that, Evin Keve, DBP member co-mayor of Van’s Çatak district, was subjected to physical violence by 6 wardens because she rejected to strip search in Van T Type Prison, to where she was taken for trial. It is reported that Evin Keve will be on hunger strike to protest the violence, until she is taken back to Ankara Sincan Prison. It is also learned that Evin Keve got a medical report evidencing the violence and made an official complaint to the prosecutor’s office.

It is learned from news coverage of June 30, 2018 that women prisoners in Bayburt M Type Prison were prevented from visiting rights for 5 months, because they reject arbitrary searches before family visits.

(07/007) The Physician Alleged to Perform Incorrect Surgery on an Ill Prisoner…

It is claimed on news coverage of June 29, 2018 that Duran Kıvanç, an ill prisoner from Bolu F Type Prison, was taken to Bolu İzzet Baysal Hospital due to serious pain in his left inguinal; and had an operation on his right inguinal instead of left. It is also claimed in the news report that, Duran Kıvanç made official complaints to the Minsitry of Justice, the Ministry of Health and Bolu Public Prosecutor’s Office; and general surgeon Eren Dağ from Bolu İzzet Baysal Hospital, responded these complaints as following “As far as I know the prisoner was arrested for terror. He is a member of DHKP/C. He is doing so for his own interests.”

(07/008) Coercion to Uniforms and Reactions Against This…

The press declaration of TAYAD (Prisoner’s Families’ Solidarity Association) members attempted to be held in Sakarya Street in Ankara on June 30, 2018 against uniform coercion in prisons is prevented by the police. It is reported that 1 person (Halil İbrahim Şener) was detained in police intervention.

(07/009) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 29, 30 and July 1, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 29, 2018, 2 people (Alev Şahin and Mehmet Dersulu) and at 18.00 3 people (Alev Şahin, Gülnaz Bozkurt, and Mehmet Dersulu) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 30, 2018, 2 people (Alev Şahin and Deniz Yılmaz) and at 18.00 2 people (Alev Şahin and Gülnaz Bozkurt) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 1, 2018, 2 people (Alev Şahin and Deniz Yılmaz) and at 18.00 4 people (Acun Karadağ, Gülnaz Bozkurt, Turgut Türksoy and Armağan Özbaş) were detained.

Thus in total 15 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 29, 30 and July 1, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(07/010) Prevention Against İstanbul LGBTI+ Pride 2018…

It is learned from news coverage of June 30, 2018 that, the Pride planned to be held in Taksim, Istanbul on July 1, 2018 is banned by Istanbul Governorate’s decision. It is reported that the reason for ban is “possible problems to happen”.

LGBTI+ Pride Week Committee made a declaration upon the ban decision and called people to read out the press declaration for the Pride on all streets of Istiklal Avenue in Taksim, as of 18.00, July 1, 2018.

It is learned that, on the Pride day the police obstructed the streets around Istiklal Avenue, and led LGBTI+ activists and people who are presumed by the police to be LGBTI+ off the streets around Istiklal Avenue.

It is reported that the police intervened with rubber bullets into a group gathering in Tarlabaşı Street in Taksim on July 1, 2018.

The police also intervened with clubs and pepper spray into the reading out of press declaration in streets around Istiklal Avenue, after the press declaration held in Mis Street in Taksim.

It is learned that 11 people in total were detained by interventions all day, and that detainees were released after health check procedures.

Özge Doğan, central executive board member of Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) and Ali Karaçay, member of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) are detained in a house raid on June 29, 2018.

(07/012) House Raid for Social Media Posts…

It is learned from news coverage of June 29, 2018 that, the house of Selen Pınar, known as Pucca, was raided by the police, because of her social media post “I am the servant of Batı (West in English)” referring to his son named Batı. It is learned that Selen Pınar’s house was searched by the police.

(07/013) Person Detained for Social Media Post in Istanbul…

On July 1, 2018, advertiser Hakan Aykut Nili’s house in Nişantaşı, Istanbul is raided and Nili is detained for his social media post about elections on June 24, saying “This should be the greatest corruption in political history. We see that the only way is to hit the streets”, and which was deleted in a short while. Hakan Aykut Nili is arrested by the court the same day.

(07/014) Former CHP MP on Trial…

Former CHP MP Eren Erdem is detained in Ankara, on June 29, 2018, based on the warrant issued by Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35. Eren Erdem is brought to the court in Istanbul the same day and is arrested for ‘aiding an illegal organisation’. The indictment through “Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation / Parallel State Structure”, demands jail penalty up to 22 years for Eren Erdem. After the approval of the indictment, the court banned Eren Erdem’s leaving the country and the trial was set on September 19, 2018. Eren Erdem was prevented from going to Germany on May 22, 2018, due to ban on leaving the country.

(07/015) HDP MP on Trial…

On June 29, 2018, Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9, released Leyla Güven based on the current situation of the evidence, who is elected as a member of parliament from Hakkari on June 24.

It is learned that the prosecutor’s office made an appeal to Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10, as the supreme court, and cancelled the release.

It is learned from news coverage that, although there is no official decision of Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 reversing the release, it is learned that Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 did not sent the writ of release to Diyarbakır E Type Prison, where Leyla Güven is kept; and thus the procedures for release are not initiated yet.

Leyla Güven was detained for her declaration on Turkish Armed Forces’ operation to Afrin and for her activities within DTK (Democratic Society Congress), on January 22, 2018 in a house raid; and she was arrested on January 31, 2018. Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 decided to continue detention, after the first trial of the case on May 16, 2018 and adjourned the trial to July 11, 2018.

(07/016) Former HDP MP on Trial…

The case against former HDP Ağrı MP Mehmet Emin İlhan on Ağrı Heavy Penal Court No 2 for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ is held on June 29, 2018. The court released Mehmet Emin İlhan and adjourned the trial.

(07/017) People on Trial for Attending Newroz Celebration in Istanbul…

The case against 28 people including 27 arrestees, for holding yellow-red-green flags and for shouting slogans in Newroz celebration in Istanbul in 2018, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37, started on June 29, 2018. After defence hearings the court released 27 arrestees and adjourned the trial. The names of people released are: Ercan İlhan, Helin Kaplan, Mizgin Tekin, Sabri Akdemir, Cengiz Tosun, Emrah Algemi, Ferhat Karaağaç, İbrahim Halil Kekeç, Onur Çiftçi, Selma Yönay, Selma Algemi, Mehdi Dağ, Özgür Ünal, Yakup Köroğlu, Volkan Atmaca, Beyhan Aktaş, Nesih Tuğa, Saida Hıznavi, Hüsna Güldem, Mizgin Başak, Gülistan Yılmaz, Nuray Ceylan, Turgay Çeçen, Ali Aksoy, Ercan Çelikel, Abidin Metin and Çağdaş Meşe.

(07/018) Person on Trial for Attending Newroz Celebration in Izmir…

The final trial of the case against a person named Emrah Çelebi, for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation by dancing around yellow-red-green flag’ in Newroz celebration in Izmir in 2017, on Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 15 is held on June 29, 2018. The court sentenced Emrah Çelebi to 10 months.

(07/019) Newspaper Employee on Trial in Antep…

The first trial against Barış Polat, an employee of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper which was closed down, on Antep Heavy Penal Court No 7, is held on June 29, 2018. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention for Barış Polat and adjourned the trial to October 30, 2018.

(07/020) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 29, 2018, 33 former security officers in operations covering 7 cities through an Ankara based investigation; 12 people in Adana and Nevşehir; 17 people in Izmir are detained.

On June 30, 2018, 13 military members on active duty in operations covering 9 cities through a Kırıkkale based investigation; 16 foreign students in Mersin; 12 people including 10 military members on active duty in operations covering 13 cities through a Maraş based investigation are detained.

(07/021) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against former judge Abdulgani M. on Antep Heavy Penal Court No 8 is held on June 29, 2018. The court sentenced Abdulgani M. to 6 years and 3 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against 84 former security officers, dismissed by the state of emergency decree, on Adana Heavy Penal Court No 11, for ‘using ByLock’ is held on June 29, 2018. The court sentenced 84 defendants to jail penalties differing from 4 years and 2 months to 7 years and 6 months.

The final trial of the case against 101 business people including 16 arrestees, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 is held on June 29, 2018. The court sentenced 8 people to jail penalties differing from 6 years and 3 months to 9 years for ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court sentenced 6 defendants to jail penalties differing from 1 year and 3 months to 6 years and 9 months for ‘aiding an illegal organisation’. The court acquitted 75 defendants and separated the cases of 12 defendants.

(07/022) Events Banned in Hakkari…

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on June 1, 2018 and announced that all events such as meetings, demonstrations, outdoor and indoor public meetings are dependent on permissions for 30 days as of July 1, 2018 and sit-in protests, hunger strikes, tents and stands are banned for 30 days as of July 1, 2018.
