(06/244) Person Wounded Due to Being Hit by Armoured Vehicle in Hakkari…

On June 28, 2018, a person named Halil Artık (56) is seriously wounded due to being hit by a police armoured vehicle in Yüksekova district of Hakkari. It is reported that people reacting to Halil Artık’s being wounded, were subjected to insults and threats by the police.

It is learned from news coverage of June 28, 2018 that 4 female prisoners in Osmaniye T Type Prison No 2 were subjected to physical violence by the wardens and have bruises on their bodies due to violence.

It is learned from news coverage of June 28, 2018 that, Buse, a trans prisoner in Tekirdağ F Type Prison started a hunger strike on June 5, 2018, demanding gender reassignment surgery.

(06/247) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 28, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 28, 2018, 2 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt and Mehmet Dersulu) and at 18.00 3 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt, Mehmet Dersulu and Deniz Yılmaz) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 28, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

The office of Sendika.org news portal in Şişli district of Istanbul is raided by the police on June 28, 2018. It is learned from news coverage that the police searched the office in the absence of Sendika.org authorities, employees and lawyers. It is reported that the reason for the raid was the detention warrant issued for Sendika.org editor Ali Ergin Demirhan for his social media posts.

1 of 14 members of HDP who were detained in Patnos district of Ağrı is arrested by the court on June 28, 2018. 13 people are released on juridical control conditions.

16 people including HDP’s MP candidate for Urfa and HDP Suruç district co-chair, have been detained for the incidents happened on June 14, 2018 in Suruç district of Urfa where 4 people have died. 1 person (Mehmet Kip) out of 16 detainees is arrested by the court for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media’ on June 28, 2018. 15 people are released, provided 6 of them on juridical control conditions. The names of detainees are: HDP MP candidate for Urfa İsmail Kaplan, HDP Suruç district co-chair Rojda Binici, Mehmet Kaplan, Mehmet Polat, Halil Mevlüt Karataş, Salih Şahin, Fethi Yavuzel, Mehmet Türkmen, Mehmet Ali Gündüzalp, Salih Olcay, Abdulkadir Gündüzalp, Mahir Aydeniz, Mehmet Kip, Fırat Çakır, Ali Övür and Mehmet Altun.

  1. D. E., the person who was detained for ‘insulting the President’ in social media posts, in Keşan district of Edirne, on June 27, 2018 is arrested by the court on June 18, 2018.

(06/252) People Arrested for Social Media Posts in Antep…

7 of 15 people who were detained for social media posts, in central and Nizip districts of Antep on June 20, 2018, are arrested by the court on June 28, 2018. 8 people (7 of them on juridical control conditions) are released.

(06/253) People Evacuated from  Nusaybin on Trial…

The case against 17 children who were detained and then arrested during the curfew on Nusaybin district, on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4 is held on June 28, 2018. It is learned that the families and press were not allowed in the court room. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention for 17 children and adjourned the trial to October 5, 2018.

(06 /254) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The separate cases against 4 academicians (Professor Nüket Esen, Assoc. Professor Z. Y., PhD student Burcu Kaya and Professor İsmail Kuban Altınel) for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held on June 28, 2018. The court decided to send the files to the Ministry of Justice in order to get permission for maintaining the trial according to Turkish Penal Code Article 301 and adjourned the trials to October 17, 2018.

The separate cases against 7 academicians (Research Assistant Canan Özcan, Ayşe Zeynep Akalın Özdemir, Nergis Perçinel, Burcu Yılmaz Gündüz, Can Yalçın Armutçuoğlu, Assoc. Professor Leyla Şimşek, retired Assist. Professor D.G.) for the same reason on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 are held on June 28, 2018. The court consolidated 7 cases with other cases on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 and adjourned the trial to October 18, 2018.

The separate cases against 3 academicians (Research Assistant D.T., retired Professor Adalet Alada and Assoc. Professor Murat Birdal) for the same reason on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 34 are held on June 28, 2018. The court adjourned the trials to January 24, 2019.

(06/255) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against Deniz Yücel, reporter of German “Die Welt” newspaper, for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and ‘inciting hatred and hostility among people’ on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 32 is held on June 28, 2018. Deniz Yücel did not attend the trial, officials from Consulate General of Germany and German press were present to monitor. The court rejected the demand of immediately acquittal and adjourned the trial to December 20, 2018.

Deniz Yücel has been detained on February 14, 2018 and arrested by the court on June 27, 2017. The court has accepted the indictment on February 16, 2018 and Deniz Yücel was released during preparation phase of the case.

The case against former HDP MP Selma Irmak for ‘insulting the President’ on Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 13 is held on June 28, 2018. After defence hearings the court rejected the lawyers’ demand of expert investigation on Selma Irmak’s speech in Kurdish for it has been mistranslated, and adjourned the trial to October 2018.

(06/257) HDP and DBP Members and Executives on Trial in Malatya…

The case against 13 members and executives of HDP and DBP including 7 arrestees on Malatya Heavy Penal Court No 1 is held on June 28, 2018. After defence hearings the court released 6 defendants on juridical control conditions and adjourned the trial to September 25, 2018. The names of released people are: DBP Malatya co-chair Mahmut Bilgiç, DBP Battalgazi district co-chair Abuzer Adıyaman, former HDP Malatya co-chair Hasan Şahin, former DBP Malatya co-chairs Polat Akköse and Halise Kutlu, HDP Women’s Assembly Spokesperson Sibel Yaylagül.

(06/258) Anti-homophobia, anti-biphobia and anti-transphobia activists on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 25 anti-homophobia, anti-biphobia and anti-transphobia activists for attending 2017 LGBT+ Pride despite of Istanbul governorate’s ban is held on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 48 on November 16, 2017. The court adjourned the trial to November 8, 2018.

(06/259) Elections on June 24, 2018…

On June 28, 2018, 5 members of CHP (former CHP Youth Section Executive Ramazan Gökoğlu, Mahir Şen, Hasan Çetin, Mustafa Yamurça and 1 more person) are detained for protesting the election results in front of Antalya Courthouse, in house raids in Antalya. It is learned that Mustafa Yamurca was released the same day after statement procedures while detention period for other 4 people is extended for 7 days to which the lawyers objected.

(06/260) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 28, 2018, 20 military members on active duty in operations covering 18 cities through a Hatay based investigation; 48 people including military members on active duty in operations covering 20 cities through an Aydın based investigation; 18 military members on active duty including major commanders and 4 lieutenants in operations covering 13 cities through a Balıkesir based investigation; 5 former teachers from schools closed down by the state of emergency decree in Ankara are detained.

On June 28, 2018, a detention warrant is issued for 57 military members on active duty including 1 lieutenant colonel, 3 major commanders and 1 lieutenant through a Batman based investigation. It is reported that operations are initiated in 28 cities.

(06/261) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 50 people on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 27 is held on June 28, 2018. The court sentenced 31 defendants to jail penalties differing from 9 months 15 days to 6 years 3 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court sentenced 5 defendants to 2 years and 1 month for ‘aiding an illegal organisation’, acquitted 10 defendants and separated the cases of 4 defendants.

(06/262) Event Banned by the Governorate in Ankara…

The screening of “Pride” movie by Communist LGBT in Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center in Ankara, on June 28, 2018 is banned by Ankara Governorate’s declaration on June 28, 2018. It is reported that the reason for ban is social sensitivity against people who would attend the event and the reactions based on this.
