(06/240) Specialized Sergeant Died in Urfa…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 27, 2019 that, specialised sergeants Mehmet Dursun and Volkan Şevik, on duty at Urfa Armoured Tank Brigadier No 20, fainted during fully-equipped training; and that Mehmet Dursun who was taken to Mehmet Akif İnan Education and Research Hospital in an unconscious condition died there while Volkan Şevik’s condition is serious.

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on June 27, 2019 and announced that a military member on watch at Otluca Commando Brigaider Command got wounded due to “accidental firing of his weapon” and died in Hakkari Public Hospital.

The Ministry of National Defence declared on June 27, 2019 that 1 soldier died and 3 soldiers got wounded due to howitzer attack to the 10th observation post in Tension-Reduction Zone in İdlib.

(06/243) Allegation of Torture and Ill-Treatment in Hatay…

The trial of the case against 11 people who were detained in Afrin by people alleged to be Free Syrian Army members and were then take by National Intelligence Service, on the grounds of ‘disturbing the unity and integrity of the state’ and ‘wilful murder’ is held on Hatay Heavy Penal Court No 2 on June 27, 2019. Lawyers claimed that those 11 people were subjected to torture and ill-treatment both in Afrin and at Hatay Gendarmerie Station. The court decided to continue detention of 11 people and adjourned the trial to September 17, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 27, 2019 that, prisoners who ended hunger strike in Izmir Şakran Prison were not referred to hospital and that the prisoners who were taken to infirmary were not treated there, and were subjected psychological and physical violence.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 27, 2019 that Şeyhdavut Başkan, a prisoner kept in Kayseri Bünyan Prison No 2, who ended hunger strike, were transferred to Kayseri Bünyan Prison No 1 under coercion, by being told that he was being taken to hospital.

(06/245) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 961 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 27, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 27, 2019, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and İlker Işık) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 27, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(06/246) Police Intervention to a Protest in Düzce…

On June 27, 2019, the police intervened the sit-in protest of Alev Şahin, who rallies in Düzce in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree and detained Alev Şahin. It is learned that Alev Şahin was released on the same day. With the last intervention, Alev Şahin has been detained for 20 times so far.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 27, 2019 that 2 people who were sitting on a bench in Esenyurt district of Istanbul, were forced to get on the ground and handcuffed behind their backs by watchmen who wanted to perform a criminal record check.

It is learned that 8 people are detained in house raids in Cizre district of Şırnak on June 27, 2019. The names of detainees are unknown.

(06/249) Detained People in İzmir…

It is learned that 9 people are detained in house raids in Konak, Torbalı, Menemen and Seferihisar districts of Izmir on June 27, 2019. It is learned that the reason of detention is ‘aiding an illegal organisation’. The names of detainees are unknown.

(06/250) Detained City Council Member and Others in Urfa…

It is learned that, house of Dilan Ablay, Urfa’s Ceylanpınar district city council member from People’s Democratic Party, is raided by the police on June 27, 2019, and her father Muhsin Ablay, mother Sevim Ablay, brother Baran Ablay and her sister under the age of 18 are detained along with Dilan Ablay. It is stated in the news reports that the police brought construction and dug the yard to make a search. It is learned that Dilan Ablay’s grandfather Zübeyir Ablay’s (73) house was also raided and Zübeyir Ablay was subjected to physical violence of the wardens.

(06/251) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The case against Gülşah Gülen from Siena University for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held on June 27, 2019. The court decided to send the case to Ankara Heavy Penal Court on the grounds of lack of venue.

The case against Assist. Professor Fatma Işık Gürleyen from Izmir University of Economics for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 28 on June 27, 2019. It is learned that the court rejected demand of rogatory for Işık Gürleyen who lives in Germany, on the grounds that “Germany does not accept rogatory in the cases of terrorist propaganda”. The court adjourned the trial to October 22, 2019.

(06/252) Hrant Dink Case…

The trial of the case against 9 people, about murder of Agos newspaper’s executive editor Hrant Dink, is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14 on June 27, 2019. The case against 9 people were separated from the main case including public officials on the grounds of “statute of limitation”. It is learned that the prosecutor’s office declared the legal opinion and stated that Hrant Dink was targeted because of his columns. It is learned that the prosecutor’s office demands sentence for Yasin Hayal on the charge of ‘establishing and leading ac criminal organisation’, for Erhan Tuncel on the charge of ‘attempting to wilful and planned murder by bombing’, ‘damage to property’, ‘aiding to wilful and planned murder of Hrant Dink’, ‘being an illegal organisation member’, for Zeynel Abidin Yavuz, Ersin Yolcu and Tuncay Uzundal on the charge of ‘aiding to wilful and planned murder of Hrant Dink’, ‘being an illegal organisation member’, for Ahmet İskender on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, for Ogün Samast on the charge of ‘being a member of armoured organisation’. It is learned that the prosecutor’s office demands acquittal for Osman Hayal and Salih Hacısalihoğlu. The court adjourned the trial to July 17, 2019.

(06/253) June 5 – Diyarbakır Case…

The case on the bombing attack to HDP’s rally in Diyarbakır on June 5, 2015, is held on Sincan West Courthouse Heavy Penal Court No 2 on June 27, 2019. Defendant Orhan Gönder attended the trial and other defendants joined the trial via sound and vision system from the prisons they are kept. The court decided to consolidate the case of Lisa Çalan, who lost both of her legs due to bombing, on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5. Lisa Çalan demanded to intervene the case earlier. The court decided to continue detention of arrested defendants and adjourned the trial to June 25, 2019.

(06/254) Police Officer on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against police officer Murat A., on the grounds of hitting and breaking the back of lawyer Zeycan Balcı, during a press declaration on March 30, 2016 in front of Istanbul Court House, is held on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 22 on June 27, 2019. The indictment demands sentence for Murat A. on the charges of ‘injury’, ‘intentional injury that cause bone fracture’, ‘extensive use of force’. It is learned that police officer Murat A. did not attend the trial on excuse. The court adjourned the trial to December 9, 2019.

(06/255) Grup Yorum Band Members and Others on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 15 people (6 arrested) including Grup Yorum music band members Helin Bölek and Bahar Kurt, on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘leading an illegal organisation’, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 is held on June 27, 2019. The court acquitted Alişan Gül and adjourned the trial to September 17, 2019.

(06/256) Students on Trial in Kocaeli…

The final trial of the case against 15 students of Kocaeli University, on the charge of ‘opposing the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No 2911’, because of a Newroz celebration at Umuttepe campus on March 23, 2016, is held on Kocaeli Penal Court of First Instance No 4 on June 27, 2019. The court acquitted 15 people.

(06/257) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against Oktay Aydın, former vice president of The Association of Judges and Prosecutors and former member of The State Council, is held on Penal Department No 9 of The Supreme Court on June 27, 2019. The court sentenced Oktay Aydın to 10 years for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against Uğur Canpolat, on Gaziantep Heavy Penal Court No 7 is held on June 27, 2019. The court sentenced the defendant to 9 years 4 months and 15 days for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(06/258) Suspended Local Authority in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 27, 2019 that Kemal Karagülle, who was elected as local headman of Sarımemet neighbourhood of Van’s Muradiye district, is suspended on the grounds of a case opened against him in 2017.
