(07/144) Operations and Attacks in the Southeast…

Y.E.H. (3) was shot at foot and wounded during an armed clash on 28 July 2015 in Cizre district of Şırnak.

A gendarmerie station was attacked on 27 July 2015 in Kırıkhan village of Tekman district in Erzurum. 3 PKK militants were reportedly wounded during the clash after the attack.

Non-commissioned officer Ziya Sarpkaya (27) was shot on 28 July 2015 when he was in plain clothes in the city centre of Şemdinli district of Hakkari. He died in the hospital.

Police officer Sedat Yabalak was abducted by alleged PKK militants on 28 July 2015 nearby Lice district of Diyarbakır. He was going back to Şanlıurfa from Erzurum where he visited his relatives.

A military troop was opened fire on 28 July 2015 nearby Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak. A soldier was reportedly wounded during the attack.

A police vehicle was attacked on 29 July 2015 in Çınar district of Diyarbakır. Police officer Mehmet Uyar (30) and civilian Osman Caran died, another civilian was wounded during the attack.

A non-commissioned officer was wounded when her/his vehicle was opened fire on 29 July 2015 in Horasan district of Erzurum.

3 soldiers were wounded when a military troop was opened fire on 29 July 2015 in Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı.

According to the official announcement, 2 militants were killed and 2 militants were wounded during the operations conducted after the attack.

One officer, 2 soldiers and one militant died during the armed clash on 30 july 2015 in Şırnak province.

A goods train was attacked on 31 July 2015 in Sarıkamış district of Kars. The railway workers who went to the place of incident were opened fire and Nejdet İnanç was shot to death. Temporary village guard Mehmet Çelik was wounded.

2 police officers and 2 PKK militants died during the armed clash that broke out on 31 July 2015 after the attack against Security Directorate in Pozantı district of Adana.

2 persons were wounded when a cluster bomb exploded on 30 July 2015 in front of Security Directorate in Diyarbakır.

Governorate of Şırnak announced on 31 July 2015 that several regions including in the province were decided to be military security zones from 15 days to 6 months. Entrance of civilians to the military security zones was also banned.

The water reservoir of the Osmaniye Municipality was attacked on 31 July 2015. one police officer and one worker were wounded during the attack.

Gendarmerie Command and Security Directorate in Çatak district of Van were attacked on 31 July 2015 with rocket launchers and long barrelled weapons. An armed clash broke out after the attack and 2 PKK militants were allegedly died, one temporary village guard was also wounded.

Gendarmerie Command of Public Security in Van was thrown a hand grenade on 31 July 2015. One soldier was wounded during the attack.

2 soldiers and one temporary village guard were wounded when a military troop was attacked on 31 July 2015 during road control.

On 31 July 2015, Turkish Air Forces continued strikes against Kandil Mountain and PKK camps in the region. PKK announced that civilian settlements were also bombed during the strikes.

16 soldiers were wounded when a bomb exploded during the passage of a military convoy on 31 July 2015 nearby Sêrde village of Hani district in Diyarbakır.

(07/145) Extra-judicial Execution in Şırnak…

On 29 July 2015 in Cizre district of Şırnak, the police opened fire against 4 persons on the grounds that they tried to escape when their vehicle was topped by the police. Hasan Nere (17) was heavily wounded. But the police handcuffed and did not hospitalise him. Hasan Nere died on the crime scene. 2 persons were also wounded during the incident.

According the news released by some media, the persons opened fire against the security forces and Hasan Nere died during the armed clash that broke out after the attack.

Şırnak Bar Association Chair Nuşirevan Elçi visited the crime scene and made an announcement: “We call it extra-judicial execution. The photograph shared by the security forces and testimonies of the eyewitnesses proves that Hasan Nere was kept handcuffed after being heavily wounded, but the police officers left him die. Killing someone like this is legally called extra-judicial execution.”

(07/146) Extra-judicial Execution in Ağrı…

On 31 July 2015, Special Forces raided a house in Ağr on the grounds that PKK militants were residing in the house and killed 3 persons in the house. 2 of the persons killed were Sezai Yaşar and Ahmet Yaşar brothers. They were registered to Diyadin district of Ağrı. The last person was reportedly Mirzettin Görtürk.

S.A. (12) and M.G. (15) were abounded when a material they found on 28 July 2015 nearby Hacılar Cemetry in Nusaybin district of Mardin exploded.

(07/148) Explosion in Şırnak…

2 children at the ages of 8 and 10 were wounded during an explosion on 28 July 2015 in an empty place where children play in Yafes quarter of Cizre district in Şırnak.

(07/149) Suspicious Private Death in Afyon…

Tamer Bedir (20) who was serving for the compulsory military service in Afyonkarahisar allegedly committed suicide on 28 July 2015. He was registered to Erciş district of Van.

(07/150) Hate Crime in Erzurum…

Kurdish construction workers were attacked by a group of ultra-nationalists on 28 July 2015 in Aşkale district of Erzurum on the grounds that the workers had ring with the colours yellow, red, and green. The group attempted to lynch the workers. The police intervened the incident after a while and made the workers leave the district.

(07/151) Torture and Ill-treatment in Custody…

Serdar Yavuz made a public statement and announced that he was insulted and beaten in police station. He was called on 29 July 2015 to the Security Directorate in Çınar district of Diyarbakır to testify in connection with an incident. The police officers started to insult him at first. Then he was taken to the basement and beat him for hours.

(07/152) Torture and Ill-treatment in Custody…

According to the news appeared in the press on 28 July 2015, Yaşar Öztemel who was detained during the police attack against the demonstration staged in Ankara to protest in the massacre in Suruç was beaten in police custody.

There were traces of beatings and bruises on the body of Yaşar Öztemel. He was also taken to Forensic Institute and was subjected to violence in front of the physician.

According to the press announcement by Human Rights Association İstanbul branch on 29 July 2015, Nadir Aslan who was detained during ID control in Esenler district of İstanbul was beaten in an empty land for hours.

(07/154) Tevfik Caner Ertay Investigation…

Tevfik Caner Ertay, member of People’s Houses in Eskişehir, was detained on 2 June 2014 during Gezi Park demonstrations in Eskişehir. He was taken to a car park; his arm and leg were broken under torture. He was also put in the trunk of a police vehicle and kept there for hours.

According to the news appeared in the press on 30 July 2015, a court case was launched against the police officers Adem Arslan, Ahmet Kızıl and İzzet Erkan.

The indictment wants Adem Arslan and Ahmet Kızıl to be sentenced to at least 8 years of imprisonment, İzzet Erkan to at least 4 years of imprisonment. Eskişehir Penal Court of First Instance No 4 will start to hear the case on 3 November 2015.

(07/155) Investigations, Detentions and Arrests on the Allegations of Insulting State President…

Kayseri Penal Court of First Instance No 7 sentenced Aykutalp Avşar to 1 year and 2 months’ imprisonment for “insulting public officer” with the expressions s/he used against Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during Gezi Park demonstrations in Kayseri.

Aykutalp Avşar was arrested on 31 July 2015 when 18th Penal Chamber at the Court of Cassation approved the sentence.

(07/156) Protesters on Trial…

According to the news appeared in the press on 28 July 2015, a court case was launched against44 persons including 41 lawyers for the demonstration staged on 11 June 2013 in front of Çağlayan Court House in İstanbul to protest police violence during Gezi Park demonstrations.

The indictment wants the defendants to be sentenced for “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”. Çağlayan Penal Court of First Instance No 90 will start to hear the case.

(07/157) Protesters on Trial in Eskişehir…

According to the news appeared in the press on 28 July 2015, a court case was launched against 67 persons for the demonstration staged on 25 February 2015 in Eskişehir to protest in the bribery and corruption allegations of 17-25 December 2013.

The indictment wants the defendants to be sentenced for “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”, “damaging public property”, and “”resisting security forces”. Eskişehir Penal Court of First Instance No 9 will start to hear the case on 25 November 2015.

(07/158) Demonstration Attacked in Van…

The police intervened the demonstration “We will not let you war” staged on 30 July 2015 in Van. The police used tear gas to disperse the crowd and detained 8 persons.

(07/159) Suruç Massacre Protest Intervened…

On 28 July 2015, the police conducted operations in Mersin against the persons who took part in the demonstration staged to protest in the massacre in Suruç.

On 29 July 2015 in Hatay, a group of persons who wanted to visit the grave of Okan Pirinç who died in Suruç were attacked by the police. 10 persons were detained under beatings during the intervention.

(07/160) Operations throughout Turkey…

According to the announcement on 29 July 2015 by the Prime Ministry Coordination Centre, 1302 persons were detained during the operations throughout Turkey. The operations were conducted in 39 provinces. The detention reasons for 1302 persons were disclosed. 847 persons were detained in connection with “PKK Investigation”, 137 persons in connection with I”S/ISIS Investigation”, and 77 persons in connection with “Marxist Leninist Communist Party (MLKP) and “DHKP-C (Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party – Front) Investigation”.

The police conducted house raids on 28 July 2015 in Varto and Bulanık districts of Muş in connection with a “Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H) Investigation” and detained 7 persons.

7 persons in İstanbul, 7 persons in Bursa, one child in Silvan district of Diyarbakır who were among 61 persons detained in connection with “PKK Investigation” were arrested on 28 July 2015 on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

9 persons who were among 10 persons detained in Suruç district of Şanlıurfa were arrested on 28 July 2015 on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

Mikail Altun who was among 6 persons detained in Bitlis was also arrested on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

Ferman Ediş who was among 24 persons detained in Van was reportedly arrested on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”. Engin Ulugana, Harun Yıldız, Vedat Cabir, Hamza Çakır and Kenan Ulter who were among 6 persons detained in Erciş district of Van were arrested.

5 persons who were among 8 persons detained in Elazığ were arrested on 28 July 2015 on the allegations of “aiding and abetting an illegal organisation”.

15 out of 56 detainees in Şanlıurfa and its districts, 5 out of 14 detainees in Adıyaman, 3 out of 14 Socialist Democracy Party (SDP) members in Antalya, 8 out of 24 detainees in Menemen and Narlıdere districts of İzmir, 5 out of 8 detainees in Hatay were arrested on 29 July 2015 on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

Operations continued on 30 July 2015. During the house raids conducted in Bursa, 7 members and executives of Peoples’ Democratic Party were detained. During the operations in various provinces, 26 persons were reportedly detained.

Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) members Zülfü Mutlutürk and Onur Demir who were detained in Sancaktepe district of İstanbul were arrested on 30 July 2015 on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

11 persons who were among 21 persons detained during house raids in Gaziantep in connection with “PKK Investigation”, 2 persons who were among 19 persons detained during house raids in Diyarbakır and its districts were arrested on 30 July 2015 on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

3 persons who were among 10 persons detained during house raids in Siirt, 3 persons in Gaziantep, 2 persons in Hakkari, one person in Hatay, 2 persons in Antalya were arrested on 31 July 2015 on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

4 persons were detained on 31 July 2015 during the operations conducted in Ardahan.
