(06/199) Suspicious Death of a Soldier in Diyarbakır…

It is claimed on the news coverage of June 24, 2019 that, İslam Muhammed Altuğ who was on his compulsory military service in Lice district of Diyarbakır, died due to the bullet which was “accidentally” fired from his own gun, 5 days before his disbandment.

(06/200) Person Who Was Kidnapped in Kocaeli…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 24, 2019 that, M.A., a person who lives in Izmit district of Kocaeli, was forcefully put in a car by 3 people who claimed themselves to be police in front of his house on June 22, 2019, and was taken to a forestland outside the city. It is reported that M.A. was subjected to torture and ill-treatment at the place where he was taken to.

M.A., who left the city after being kidnapped, stated the following: “They introduced themselves as police officers. I did not know that we were going there (City Woods). They talked in a humanly way first. Then torture came. (…) I felt uneasy so I asked them their police identity cards but they did not show any cards. They insulted me in a racist way, they told me to leave the city; they hit me at the back with clubs. They said ‘You will leave this country’, ‘We will not let terrorists like you leave here’. I was trying to understand the issue and they were saying ‘We know who you are’, ‘You dirty Kurd’, ‘We will … you’. And then they left by the car. I came home back via public transportation”.

(06/201) Person Who Was Subjected to Physical Violence of the Police in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 24, 2019 that, Samya Emsem (67), a person with asthma, was subjected to physical violence of the police raiding their house in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır and was pushed to the ground causing her fell.

(06/202) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 958 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 24, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 24, 2019, 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 24, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(06/203) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the protestors in front of Çankaya Public Health Directorate on June 17, 2019, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 2 people (Mahmut Konuk and 1 more person). It is learned that 2 people were released the same day.

(06/204) Detained Members and Executives of HDP and DBP in Adana…

7 of 33 people, including 6 children, who were detained through an Adana based investigation against People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly, on June 17, 2019, are arrested by the court on June 24, 2019. 26 people are released provided that 2 of them will be on house confinement. The names of arrested people are: Democratic Regions Party (DBP) provincial executive Halit Şaşmaz, Nuda Doğan, Selman Şen, Burhan Erol, Abdullah Ayriç, Bahattin Ayraç, Saadet Çelik.

Detained 33 people were subjected to torture and ill-treatment at Adana Courthouse, where they have been taken for extension of detention periods.

(06/205) Detained DBP Executive in Diyarbakır…

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Diyarbakır provincial executive Hayri Etyemez is detained in a house raid in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on June 24, 2019.

(06/206) Detained ESP and SGDF Members in Ankara…

5 people who were detained in house raids in Ankara on June 21, 2019, through an investigation against Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) and Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), are released by the court on June 24, 2019. It is learned that the court released Cem Koç, Volkan Muyan ve Cansu Yumuşak on the condition of 10.000 Turkish Liras pecuniary guarantee and Günce Kurşun and Melis Çelik with a ban on leaving the country.

(06/207) The Supreme Court’s Decision on Suit for Damages Against Cumhuriyet Newspaper…

On June 24, 2019, Penal Department No 4 of the Supreme Court concluded on the appeal against 10.000 Turkish Liras of fine for non-pecuniary damages, given to Cumhuriyet newspaper and reporter Alican Uludağ, by Sakarya Penal Court of First Instance No 4 on February 12, 2016. The court has given the fine on the grounds of a news report on Sakarya Governor Hüseyin Avni Coş. The Supreme Court reversed the verdict of the local court.

(06/208) The Conscientious Objector on Trial in Artvin…

The final trial of the case against conscientious objector Şendoğan Yazıcı, for not fulfilling compulsory military service, is held on Artvin Borçka Penal Court of First Instance on June 20, 2019. The court acquitted Yazıcı, on the grounds of Article 223/2-a of Criminal Court Law No 5271 (“acquittal shall be adjudged if the imputed act is not defined by the law as an offense”).

Conscientious objector Şendoğan Yazıcı was judged previously on the same reason and was sentenced to 62 days which was then converted to a fine of 640 Turkish Liras.

(06/209) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 24, 2019, a detention warrant is issued for 32 people including 2 colonels and 9 lieutenants through an Ankara based investigation against Land Forces Command personnel.
