(06/179) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned that 2 soldiers died and 1 soldier was wounded in an attack of HDP militants against a military vehicle around Uzundere village in Çukurca district of Hakkari on June 20, 2018.

It is learned from news coverage of June 20, 2018 that 2 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Şırnak on June 1, 2018.

(06/180) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 20, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 19, 2018, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Mahmut Konuk) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Gülnaz Bozkurt) were detained. Mahmut Konuk, who is detained by police intervention to the press declaration planned to be held at 13.30, is detained for 13th time since he announced to run as an independent candidate for elections on June 24, 2018. Mahmut Konuk was detained on May 21, 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30, and June 3, 5, 6, 12, 13 and 19, 2018.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 20, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(06/181) Journalist Arrested in Istanbul…

Ece Sevim Öztürk, Çağdaş Ses news portal managing editor who was detained in Istanbul on June 8, 2018, is arrested by the court on June 20, 2018. Ece Sevim Öztürk was detained based on the official complaint of Turkish Naval Force to Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office about the documentary she shot on Naval Forces.

(06/182) Detained HDP and DBP Members and Executives…

On June 20, 2018, 13 people including DBP (Democratic Regions Party) Party Assembly member Zeynel Mat are detained in house raids in Erzurum. The names of detainees known so far are: Zeynel Mat, DBP Erzurum executive Abdurrahman İncekan, Osman Özbey, Esat Kabak, Sıdık Uğur, Kazım Erhan, Hafit Karagöz, Fudail Karagöz, Raşit Karagöz, Ayhan Kırtıl.

On June 20, 2018, 4 members (Özgür Ulaş, Dündar Cin, M. Ali Akdağ and Jiyan Cin) of HDP are detained in house raids in Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak.

On June 20, 2018, 15 people are detained in house raids in Iğdır. The names of detainees and the reason for detention are unknown.

On June 20, 2018 6 members (Mehmet Nuri Aslankan, İbrahim Aslankan, Ozan Özçelik, Diyadin Fırat, İbrahim Balcı and Ömer Faruk Eren) of HDP are detained in house raids in Ankara.

It is learned that 12 people are detained for social media posts, in house raids in central and Nizip districts of Antep on June 20, 2018.

(06 /184) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The case against Gülengül Altıntaş for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ are held on June 19, 2018. After defence hearings, the court rejected the demand of consolidation of the case with the case on Heavy Penal Court No 13 and adjourned the trial to September 19, 2018.

(06/185) Co-Mayor on Trial…

The case against Tunceli Municipality co-mayor Nurhayat Altun on Tunceli Heavy Penal Court No 1 is held on June 20, 2018. The indictment demands Nurhayat Altun to be sentenced up to 22 years for ‘leading an illegal organisation’ for 22 press declarations, demonstrations and funerals she attended along with her activity within DTK (Democratic Society Congress). Gürbüz Topçu, a witness of the case, stated that his testimony was taken without a lawyer and under torture, and that he does not know Nurhayat Altun. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention for Nurhayat Altun and adjourned the trial to August 15, 2018.

(06/186) Elections on June 24, 2018…

Faruk Sefkan and Emine Örs, presenters of HDP’s meeting in Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı, who were detained on June 19, 2018, are arrested by the court for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organisation’ on June 20, 2018. 2 people (Faruk Sefkan and Emine Örs) were detained for the expression “democracy martyrs”. It is learned that 15 detainees are released.

Arife Çınar, HDP Party Assembly member, is detained based on a detention warrant in Menemen district of Izmir on June 20, 2018.

On June 20, 2018, 4 volunteers (Ünal Güneş, Salih Gider, Bayram Öner and Münacat Yalçıner) for ballot committee on behalf of HDP, are detained in house raids in Bursa.

It is learned that the police intervened and removed the campaign stand of EMEP (Labour Party) on the grounds that a party that do not run for elections must get permission due to state of emergency conditions. It is reported that distribution of leaflets by EMEP members is also prevented for the same reason.

It is learned from news coverage of June 20, 2018 that the application of DİSK (Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey) to Konak district Election Board in order to distribute leaflets about elections, is rejected on the grounds that trade unions cannot make propaganda during electoral campaign periods.

According to Transparency International’s monitoring of Turkish Radio Television News (TRT Haber) channel for appearance of presidency candidates from May 31, 2018 to June 14, 2018, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (AKP) was covered for 53 minutes, Muharrem İnce (CHP) was covered for 22 minutes, Meral Akşener (İyi Party) was covered for 16 minutes, Temel Karamollaoğlu (SP) was covered for 8 minutes, and Doğu Perinçek was covered for 6 minutes. HDP’s candidate for presidency, Selahattin Demirtaş, was not covered by TRT Haber channel at all.

It is learned from news coverage of June 20, 2018 that the decision of Bağlar district Electoral Board for taking off the posters of President, AKP Chair and AKP’s candidate for presidency Tayyip Erdoğan, on lightning poles, is overruled by the decision of Diyarbakır Electoral Board. It is stated in the news report that the justification of the decision states that the posters are not political party symbols.

(06/187) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 42 defendants including 10 arrestees on Aydın Heavy Penal Court No 3 is held on June 20, 2018. The court sentenced 27 defendants to jail penalties differing from 1 year and 6 months to 12 years. The court separated the cases of 15 defendants.
