(11/202) Lawyers were Subjected to Physical Violence of the Police and Court Officers in Ankara…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 15, 2018 that Fadime Eymir, a lawyer from Ankara Bar Association Department of Code of Criminal Procedure, was subjected to physical and verbal violence of a police officer from Ankara Security Directorate Department of Anti-smuggling and Organised Crime during a trial held on Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 1.

It is reported that lawyer Fadime Eymir demanded that the physical violence she was subjected to should be recorded in investigation minutes however the investigating judge rejected her demand. Another lawyer, Büşra Pamukçu from Ankara Bar Association Lawyers’ Rights Department demanded to communicate the issue with the judge and she was also subjected to physical violence of the court officers who took her out of the courtroom and was injured due to hitting the doorknob at the arm.

(11/203) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 15, 2018 that prisoners in Patnos L Type Prison and are not using their visit rights to protest the meals given to them in which allegedly razor pieces are found.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 15, 2018 that Taner Korkmaz, a prisoner from Van M Type Prison, is “prohibited from some activities for 1 month” because of giving a painkiller to another prisoner. It is learned that Taner Korkmaz sent a letter to the newspapers and stated that Mecit Şahinkaya, Yusuf Kenan Dinçer, Murat Kaymaz, Akil Nergiz, Talat Şanlı and himself have been kept in solitary cells for 2 years; their letters to the newspapers are either censored or not sent at all and they are not given magazines and newspapers.

(11/204) Rejection to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 15, 2018 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was rejected the same day on the grounds of limitations for prisoners in accordance with the law on the execution of sentences and security measures (law no 5275). With the last rejection, it was the 764th time that appeals for visiting Öcalan have been rejected so far. Abdullah Öcalan has met his lawyers on July 27, 2011 for the last time.

(11/205) Austrian Citizen Kept in Repatriation Center…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 15, 2018 that Austrian citizen Hülya Yılmaz was being kept in Harmandalı Repatriation Center in İzmir and was not medically treated despite of her cancer. Hülya Yılmaz was detained on September 8, 2018 at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport and was released by the court on September 9, 2018. However, Hülya Yılmaz was detained again on September 10, 2018 “administrative detention” decision for 6 months given by the court on the grounds of “posing a threat to public safety and holding the possibility of escape”, and was taken to Harmandalı Repatriation Center. It is stated in the news reports that Hülya Yılmaz has a disability at the rate of 62 per cent and she cannot reach to the regular checks and treatment she needs to.

(11/206) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 737 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 15, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on November 15, 2018, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Derviş Lermi) and at 18.00 3 people (Nazan Bozkurt, Derviş Lermi and Gülnaz Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on November 15, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(11/207) Police Intervention Against Protest of Union Members in Ankara…

The police intervened against the press declaration of Office, Banking and Insurance Workers’ Union (BES) on Izmir Street in Ankara on November 15, 2018, on the grounds of Ankara Governorate’s interdict. 2 union representatives (Mevlüt Çakmak and İsmet Meydan) and Nazan Bozkurt from “I Want My Job Back” protests are detained by the police.

(11/208) Armed Assault at HDP Office…

It is learned that Ömer İldeniz, the village guard who was detained for the armed assault at HDP office in Bismil district of Diyarbakır on November 13, 2018 is released by the court with travel ban on November 14, 2018.

(11/209) Newspaper Employee Detained in Istanbul…

Ertan Çıta, an employee of Yeni Demokrasi newspaper is detained in Istanbul on November 14, 2018. The reason for detention is unknown. It is learned that Ertan Çıta is taken to Istanbul Police Headquarters.

(11/210) HDP Executive is Arrested in Istanbul…

Tuna Aydın, People’s Democratic Party’s (HDP) central executive board member and spokesperson of Youth Assembly, who was detained on November 9, 2018 is arrested by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 7 on November 10, 2018. It is learned that the court states the following as the reason for detention: “the possibility that he could have been a part of armed and ideological training of the organisation in rural areas, that he could be connected to several members of the organisation, and that he could be responsible for redirecting the instructions from rural part of the organisation to youth structures”.

(11/211) Police Raid to Revolutionary Party’s Headquarters…

Revolutionary Party’s headquarters in Ankara is raided by the police on November 15, 2018. It is learned that the police searched the office and seized several documents.

(11/212) HDP and HDK Members on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 29 people 6 of whom are arrested including HDP’s Party Assembly member Can Memiş and several members of People’s Democratic Congress (HDK), is held on November 15, 2018 on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 28. The court released Can Memiş, Hasan Hüseyin Gencer and Suphi Yıldız, and decided to continue detention for Taylan Urun, Atilla Sayir and Metin İlan, and adjourned the trial to February 14, 2019. 29 people were detained in house raids on February 7, 2018 in Istanbul and 18 of them were arrested on February 21, 2018. 9 people (Celalettin Can, Abdulsalam Yulcu, Erhan Sarıkaya, Vahit Dalğıç, Filiz Yılmaz, Gonca Yangöz, Mehmet Şamil Altan, Nevzat Yılmaz and Taylan Talaş) were released on judicial control conditions and with a travel ban on June 27, 2018.

(11/213) HDP Executives and Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 39 people including HDP Istanbul co-chair Cengiz Çiçek and journalists Servet Karaduman and Melike Ceyhan, is held on November 15, 2018 on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22. After defence hearings the court lifted judicial control conditions on 1 person (HDP’s Güngören district co-chair Ömer Özkan) and adjourned the trial to February 1, 2019.

On April 28, 2018, the police raided Güngören district office of HDP and detained 39 people, and 10 of them were arrested on May 3, 2018. 9 people were released on June 25, 2018 and Ömer Özkan was released on August 2, 2018.

(11/214) The Case Against People Evacuated from Nusaybin…

The case against 17 children who were detained and then arrested on May 26, 2016, after being evacuated from the buildings they were stuck in during the curfew on Nusaybin district, is held November 15, 2018 on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4. It is learned that the children were not brought to the courtroom for trial. The court did not allow any press members in, and it is learned that the court decided to continue detention for 17 children and adjourned the trial to January 3, 2019.

Fatih Timur, a person who was detained in Ankara is arrested by the court on November 15, 2018.

(11/216) Operations Against People with Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu made a speech on 2019 budget of the ministry and of related institutions during the meeting of Grand National Assembly Planning and Budget Committee on November 15, 2019, and stated that 62.730 operations were conducted within the context of defeating the coup attempt and 217.971 people were detained through these operations, while 16.684 of them were convicted and 14.750 of them were arrested pending trial, since July 15, 2016. Soylu also stated that 101 mayors (of 10 provinces, 69 districts, and 22 towns) were suspended in total, and 94 of them were suspended for alleged link to an illegal organisation while 7 of them were suspended for alleged link to the coup attempt.
