(06/080) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 15, 2019 that, 2 HPG militants died in a clash between HPG militants and security forces in rural areas of Şırnak on April 7, 2019; and 2 HPG militants died due to the air attack of Turkish Air Force to Qandil area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 14, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 16, 2019 that 1 soldier died in a clash between HPG militants and security forces in İdil district of Şırnak.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 16, 2019 that, 2 HPG militants died in the air attack of Turkish Air Force to rural areas of Lice district of Diyarbakır on June 7, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 16, 2019 that, YPJ-Star assumes the responsibility of the attack which caused death of 2 civilians and injury of 1, in rural areas of Yüksekova district of Hakkari on June 10, 2019.

(06/081) Missing Person in Tunceli…

It is learned that Engin Eroğlu, a person living in Yaylagünü village of Tunceli’s Ovacık district, has gone missing and no news were received of him since June 15, 2019. It is stated in the news reports that, gendarmerie was informed that Engin Eroğlu went to shepherding and did not come back again; and his cell phone and a cap were found in search around. It is also state din the news reports that blood marks and traces of dragging were also seen around a bridge near the village.

Murat Alan, news director of Yeni Akit newspaper, was attacked in front of his house in Gaziosmanpaşa district of Istanbul on June 14, 2019. It is learned that 4 people are detained in relation to the attack.

(06/083) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 16, 2019 that, Abdülrahim Çetinkaya, a prisoner kept in Şakran T Type Prison No 3, who ended hunger strike, was taken to hospital with prison shuttle but not with an ambulance; and that he was subjected to verbal violence of soldiers during his transfer to hospital and for 2 days he was kept in hospital.

(06/084) Prevention of Prisoner’s Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 15, 2019 that, Gülden Aşık, a prisoner kept in Bandırma M Type Prison was prevented from her right to health in prison. It is stated in the news reports that, Gülden Aşık fell ill in her ward on May 16, 2019 but she was taken to infirmary on May 30, 2019; where the doctor told her that she was 9-weeks pregnant. It is stated in the news reports that it was learned that the baby died in the womb after tests done in the hospital she was referred to on May 31, 2019; and that the dead body of the baby was aborted on June 1, 2019. It is learned that Gülden Aşık, who has three children at the ages of 10, 9 and 6, was taken back to prison on June 2, 2019, after she was discharged from hospital.

(06/085) Rejection to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 15, 2019 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s sister and brother and tutelary along with the families of Hamili Yıldırım, Ömer Hayri Konar and Veysel Aktaş in order to visit, was rejected the same day on the grounds of a court decision given on April 22, 2019.

(06/086) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 950 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 14, 15, and 16, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 14, 2019, 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Derviş Lermi) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 15, 2019, 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Alev Şahin) and at 18.00 4 people (Nazife Onay, Ünal Kaymak, Hatice Yüksel and Alev Şahin) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 16, 2019, 2 people (Acun Karadağ and İlker Işık) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and İlker Işık) were detained.

Thus in total 12 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 14, 15, and 16, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(06/087) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

On June 15, 2019, Cemal Yıldırım, holding a press declaration on Sakarya Street in Çankaya district of Ankara in order to regain his job from which he was dismissed, is detained by police intervention. It is learned that Cemal Yıldırım was released on the same day.

(06/088) Police Intervention Against Saturday Mothers’ Protest in Istanbul…

Police obstructed all the streets around Galatasaray Square in Istanbul to prevent Saturday Mothers who rally every Saturday for 23 years in the same place to gather for the 742nd time on June 15, 2019. Upon police prevention, the group including representatives of political parties, human rights defenders and artists along with families of disappeared people held a press declaration on the street of Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul office.

(06/089) Prevention of Human Rights Defenders’ Event in Istanbul…

 “F sit-in”, which is organized for the 377th time by Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch Prison Watch Committee, to demand release of ill prisoners, on June 17, 2019, is prevented by the police. The police obstructed all the streets around Galatasaray Square. Human rights defenders made the press declaration in front of IHD Istanbul office.

(06/090) Detained Reporters in Bursa…

It is learned that 3 reporters of Özgür Gelecek magazine are detained in a police raid to Bursa office of the magazine on June 13, 2019. It is reported that published material such as books and magazines, as well as office material were seized. The names of detained reporters are: Sevda Erkılınç, Togay Okay and Hüseyin Camkıran.

(06/091) Police Raid to the Office of Yürüyüş Magazine in Istanbul…

It is learned that 4 people (Ali Aracı, Merve Kurt, Ümit Çimen and Yılmaz Viraner) were detained in the police raid the office of Yürüyüş magazine in Sultangazi district of Istanbul on June 14, 2019.

(06/092) Police Raid to Etkin News Agency in Istanbul…

On June 15, 2019, the central office of Etkin News Agency in Istanbul is raided by the police on the grounds of a ban on a supplement of Atılım newspaper. It is learned that 7 people including editors and reporters of the agency were detained. The names of detained people are: editors İsminaz Temel, Deniz Bakır and Serdal Işık, reporters Havva Cuştan and Ozan Sarı, agency employee and Human Rights Association Istanbul Branch executive board member Mehmet Acettin and Socialist Women’s Assemblies member Gülçin Aykul.

(06/093) Detained Members and Executives od ESP, SGDF, SKM and ÖGK in Istanbul…

On June 15 and 16, 2019, 7 people including members and executives of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), Socialist Women’s Assemblies (SKM) and Free Young Women (ÖGK) are detained in house raids in Istanbul. The names of detained people are: ESP deputy chair Şahin Tümüklü, ESP Party Assembly member Hüseyin İldan, ESP and SKM executive board member Ezgi Bahçeci, SGDF executive board member Şükran Yaren Tuncer, SKM assembly member Zeynep Güler Gerçek, ÖGK members İlknur Çetin and Özge Doğan.

(06/094) Detained People in Urfa for Social Media Posts…

5 of 13 people who were detained on June 13, 2019, in Birecik, Halfeti, Suruç and Hilvan districts of Urfa, on the grounds of social media posts, are arrested by the court on June 14, 2019. 8 people are released. The names of arrested and released people are unknown.

(06/095) Former HDP Co-Chair on Trial…

The case against HDP’s former co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 6 is held on June 14, 2019. Figen Yüksekdağ attended the trial via sound and vision system and made her defence. The court decided to continue detention of Figen Yüksekdağ and adjourned the trial to July 26, 2019.

(06/096) Former HDP MP on Trial…

The case against HDP’s former Mardin MP Gülser Yıldırım, for her speeches between 2012 and 2016, is held on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 3 on June 14, 2019. Gülser Yıldırım did not attend the trial on health excuses. The court adjourned the trial to October 10, 2019.

(06/097) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Sözcü newspaper’s grant holder Burak Akbay, writers Emin Çölaşan and Necati Doğru, Izmir reporter Gökmen Ulu, executive editor Metin Yılmaz, finance executive Yonca Yücekaleli and Mustafa Çetin and Yücel Arı, on the charges of ‘leading an illegal organisation’, ‘being a member of an illegal organisation’, ‘knowingly and willingly aiding an illegal organisation’ is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 on June 14, 2019. The court adjourned the trial to September 4, 2019.

(06/098) Journalists, Writers and Others on Trial in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 14, 2019 that, Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against Bloomberg reporters Kerim Karakaya and Fercan Yalınkılıç who reported news on financial crisis and increasing exchange rates, and 36 people who shared and commented on these news reports on social media including Mustafa Sönmez, Merdan Yanardağ, Gazi Kozanoğlu, Sedef Kabaş Yirmibeşoğlu, upon the official complaint of Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency. The indictment demands jail penalty from 2 years to 5 years for 38 people, on the charge of ‘attempt to weaken financial order and stability of the state’. It is reported that the indictment is accepted by Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 3 and the first trial will be held on September 20, 2019.

(06/099) Ekrem Kaçaroğlu Case…

The re-trail of the case against 4 people (Reşit Aktaş, Kubilay Aktaş, Murat Kesgin and Suat Dinçer) on the charge of lynching and killing Ekrem Kaçaroğlu, during Kobane protests in Bornova district of Izmir on October 7, 2014, is held on June 13, 2019. Penal Department No 4 of Izmir Regional Court has reversed the verdict of Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 8.

The court has sentenced Reşit Aktaş, Kubilay Aktaş and Murat Kesgin to 17 years each on the charge of ‘killing on probable intent’ and acquitted Suat Dinçer. Penal Department No 4 of Izmir Regional Court reversed the verdict and sent back the case in order to sentence the defendants on the charge of ‘killing’ and approved acquittal of Suat Derviş.

Defendants Reşit Aktaş, Kubilay Aktaş, Murat Kesgin did not attend the trial. The court lifted the warrant for three defendants and adjourned the trial to November 2019.

On June 14, 2019, 6 people are detained in Ankara.

(06/101) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 20 people including Erzurum Security Directorate Intelligence Department former director Hurşit Uçak, is held on Erzurum Heavy Penal Court No 2 on June 14, 2019. The court sentenced 13 defendants including Hurşit Uçak to jail penalties from 1 year 10 months to 7 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court separated the cases against 5 people, rejected public case against 1 defendant and acquitted 1 defendant.

The final trial of the case against 79 people for leaking the questions of Police Academy Examination of 2012, is held on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 19 on June 14, 2019. The court sentenced 51 people to jail penalties from 1 year 10 months 15 days to 9 years 7 months for ‘being an illegal organisation’ and ‘fraud against public institutions’. The court separated the cases against 10 people and acquitted 18 people.

Izmir Governorate made a declaration on June 14, 2019 and banned all events of Izmir LGBTI+ Pride Week which were to be held between June 17 and 23, 2019, on the grounds of “protection of public security and public moral”.

Antalya Governorate made a declaration on June 15, 2019 and banned all events of Antalya LGBTI+ Pride Week on the grounds of “protection of public security and public moral”.

The press declaration of 78s Initiative, which was to be held on June 16, 2019, about ancient towns of Hasankeyf of Batman, which will be under water due to Ilısu Dam construction, is banned by Hasankeyf Sub-governorate.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 15, 2019 that, Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) banned access to www.etha10.com website of Etkin News Agency.

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration and announced 5 areas in central, Çukurca, Yüksekova and Derecik districts as special security zone as of June 16, 2019 until June 30, 2019.
