(11/167) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned that 3 workers got wounded due to an attack of a group alleged to be HPG members against the road construction workers in Çukurca district of Hakkari on November 13, 2018.

(11/168) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 13, 2018 that 3 prisoners kept in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison were subjected to physical violence by soldiers while they were brought back to prison from hospital on November 7, 2018.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 13, 2018 that 12 prisoners kept in C-16 ward in Manisa T Type Prison were being subjected to physical violence by the wardens since November 6, 2018 for rejecting to stand in military order during roll-calls.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 13, 2018 that Selami Keleş, a prisoner with epilepsy in Düzce T Type Prison was prevented from medical treatment.

(11/170) Rejection to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 13, 2018 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was rejected the same day on the grounds of limitations for prisoners in accordance with the law on the execution of sentences and security measures (law no 5275). With the last rejection, it was the 763rd time that appeals for visiting Öcalan have been rejected so far. Abdullah Öcalan has met his lawyers on July 27, 2011 for the last time.

(11/171) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 735 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 13, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on November 13, 2018, 5 people (Mahmut Konuk, Derviş Lermi, Mehmet Dersulu, Gülnaz Bozkurt and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 3 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt, Mehmet Dersulu and Derviş Lermi) were detained.

Thus in total 8 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on November 13, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(11/172) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…

Türkan Albayrak, who was dismissed from her job at Sarıyer district Health Department, on the grounds of ‘personnel security investigation’ and ‘archive search’, on August 3, 2018; made a press declaration to regain her job on November 13, 2018 and attempted for a sit-in protest in front of Health Department. The police intervened the sit-in and detained Türkan Albayrak. It is learned that Türkan Albayrak was released the same day. It is the 44th time of detention of Türkan Albayrak.

The police intervened into the press declaration held in front of Grand National Assembly on November 13, 2018, to protest the legal regulation which restricts health workers who were not appointed for public duty on the grounds of “personnel security investigation” to be employed by private health institutions; and detained 2 people (Mihriban Yıldırım and Onur Erden). It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(11/174) People Detained in Police Raid to İdil Cultural Center…

5 of 10 people who were detained in police raid to İdil Cultural Center in Şişli district of Istanbul on November 9, 2018, are arrested by the court on November 13, 2018. 5 people are released on judicial control conditions. The names of arrested people are: Meral Hır, Ezgi Kul, Aslıhan Diş, Dehman Göçer and Duygu Yasinoğlu.

(11/175) Journalist Detained in Istanbul…

Ali Ergin Demirhan, sendika.org news portal editor is detained in the office of the portal on November 13, 2018, on the grounds of incomplete statement for an investigation on him. Ali Ergin Demirhan is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(11/176) People Detained in Ağrı…

15 people are detained in house raids in Tutak district of Ağrı on November 13, 2018. The reason for detention is unknown. The names of detainees are: Eshat Acar, Siyabent Efe, Mehmet Duru, Selahattin Turgut, Mehmet Duran, Aslan Özalp, Nuri Kılıç, Kadir Keskin, Nesim ve Ercan Özer, Sezai Kotan, Fesih Yalçın, Abdullah Bozkurt, Erol Kandemir, Merali Dinç.

(11/170) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The case against Professor Işık Yıldıran from Işık University for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ are held on November 13, 2018. The court adjourned the trial to January 23, 2019.

The separate cases against 2 academicians (H.G. from Yıldız Technical University and Assist. Professor Mehmet Sinan Birdal from Işık University) for the same reason on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 34 is held on November 13, 2018. The court decided to send both of the cases to the Ministry of Justice to ask the possibility of considering the offence charged within the scope of Article 301 of Turkish Penal Code and to end proceedings until the Ministry’s response.

The separate cases against 3 academicians (Yonca Demir, Ayten Zara and E.A. from Bilgi University) for the same reason on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 28 is held on November 13, 2018. It is learned that the prosecutor declared legal opinion before Yonca Demir made her defence, and that she was prevented from her right to defence. The court adjourned the trials of the cases against Yonca Demir and Ayten Zara to December 27, 2018 and the trial of the case against E.A. to December 14, 2018.

(11/178) Co-Mayor on Trial…

The case against İpek Güneş, co-mayor of Ömerli district of Mardin, on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4 is held on November 13, 2018. The court decided to release İpek Güneş and adjourned the trial.

(11/179) Medeni Yıldırım Case…

The case against Adem Çiftçi, a soldier on compulsory military service, for death of Medeni Yıldırım in Lice district of Diyarbakır on June 28, 2018, on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 7 is held on May 22, 2018. Medeni Yıldırım was killed with a shot fired from military station during a march to protest the construction of a high security military station in Kalecik village of Lice. The indictment demands jail penalty up to 18 years for Adem Çiftçi for ‘killing with an eventual intent under unjust provocation’. The court adjourned the trial to February 7, 2019 in order to wait for the expert report.

The earlier acquittal verdict of Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 7 was reversed by Gaziantep Regional Court Penal Department No 1.

(11/180) Actress on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against actress Berna Laçin on the grounds of ‘publicly degrading the religious values of a section of the public’ in a social media post, started to be held on Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 59 on November 13, 2018. The court adjourned the trial.

(11/181) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On November 13, 2018, 7 people are arrested in operations covering 3 cities through a Samsun based investigation; 12 people are detained in Konya for using ByLock; 12 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 16 cities through an İzmir based investigation.

(11/182) Armed Assault at HDP Office…

On November 13, 2018, HDP office in Bismil district of Diyarbakır is assaulted by unidentified armed people. It is learned that there were no casualties but material damage only.
