(06/073) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on June 7, 2018 and announced that 4 soldier got injured due to an attack against a military vehicle convoy under way in Çukurca district on June 6, 2018.

(06/074) Rejection to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 7, 2018 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was rejected the same day on the grounds of limitations for prisoners in accordance with the law on the execution of sentences and security measures (law no 5275). With the last rejection, it was the 762nd time that appeals for visiting Öcalan have been rejected so far. Abdullah Öcalan has met his lawyers on July 27, 2011 for the last time.

(06/075) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 7, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 7, 2018, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Acun Karadağ) and at 18.00 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Acun Karadağ) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 7, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(06/076) Detentions and Arrests…

On June 7, 2018, Halime Işık (59) is detained in house raids in central district of Mardin, based on a warrant. It is reported that Halime Işık was taken to Anti-Terror Department of Police.

On June 7, 2018, 5 students Faruk Ceylan, Mazlum Efe, Ebubekir Ergün, Habat Karayılan and Sedat Alkan) of Akdeniz University are detained in house raids in Antalya. It is reported that 5 people are taken to Bahçelievler Police Station, however the reason for detention is unknown.

(06/077) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The cases against 11 academicians from Boğaziçi University, (Professor Rıfat Okçabol, Professor Mine Eder, Professor Reşit Şahin Canbeyli, Professor Berna Kılınç, Aslı Zeren, Asst. Professor Albert Ali Salah, Professor Selim Eyüboğlu, Asst. Professor Meral Demirel, Asst. Professor Ceren Özselçuk, Assoc. Professor Zeynep Gambetti and Can Candan) for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ started on June 7, 2018. The court rejected the demands for immediate acquittal and consolidation of the cases with the case of 4 academicians on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 in all 11 trials. The court adjourned the trials of the cases against Professor Mine Eder and Asst. Professor Albert Ali Salah to October 4, 2018; the trials of the cases against Professor Reşit Şahin Canbeyli, Can Candan, Asst. Professor Ceren Özselçuk, Asst. Professor Meral Demirel, Assoc. Professor Zeynep Gambetti, Professor Berna Kılınç, Professor Rıfat Okçabol and Aslı Zeren to September 18, 2018 and the trial of the case against Professor Selim Eyüboğlu to October 16, 2018.

The case against academician Tuna Kuyucu from Boğaziçi University on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 27 started on June 7, 2018. The court rejected the demands for immediate acquittal and consolidation of the cases with the case of 4 academicians on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 and adjourned the trial to July 17, 2018.

The trial of the case against academician G. M. M. from Kadir Has University on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 is held on June 7, 2018. The court rejected the demands for immediate acquittal and consolidation of the cases with the case of 4 academicians on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 and adjourned the trial to November 1, 2018.

(06/078) Journalists on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against Dicle Müftüoğlu former editor in chief, and Zekeriya Güzüpek, former managing board member of Dicle News Agency, which was closed down by the state of emergency decree, on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 is held on June 7, 2018. The court acquitted Zekeriya Güzüpek and sentenced Dicle Müftüoğlu to 1250 day-fines. The court reduced the punitive fine of Dicle Müftüoğlu to 1041 day-fines based on “positive behaviour during trials” and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(06/079) People on Trial for “Insulting the President”…

The punitive fine sentence of 7000 Turkish liras given by Çorlu Penal Court of First Instance No 3, to 3 members of HTKP (People’s Communist Party of Turkey) is reversed by Supreme Court Penal Department No 18. 3 members of HTKP were sentenced to 7000 Turkish liras each for holding banners “Go on an accede to Çankaya”, about Tayyip Erdoğan’s getting his certificate of election on August 28, 2014.

(06/080) Physician on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against physician Burcu Gürsoy, who gave clean judicial medical examination reports without examining the detainees subjected to physical violence of the police in Beşiktaş district of Istanbul on May 1, 2015, on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 38 is held on June 7, 2018. The court sentenced Burcu Gürsoy to 6 months for “official misconduct” and deferred the announcement of the verdict after reducing the sentence to 5 months.

On May 1, 2015, a group of people including brain surgeon Salih Şahin, were detained in Beşiktaş and were taken to Kağıthane Public Hospital Emergency Room. Salih Şahin made an official complaint about physician Burcu Gürsoy, who gave reports on 15 people even without taking them off the police vehicle and a case was opened against her.

(06/081) Event Prevented in Istanbul…

It is learned from news coverage of June 7, 2018 that Bilgi University Rainbow Club Members, who wanted to hold flags as a part of 26th Istanbul LGBTİ+ Pride Week, on Contemporary Arts Centre in Santral İstanbul campus of Bilgi University are prevented. Club members have been attacked by a group for reacting against The Red Crescent which did not accept blood donation of LGBTİ students recently.

(06/082) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 7, 2018, 1 person in Kuşadası district of Aydın, 6 former employees of Melikşah University which was closed down by the state of emergency decree in Kayseri, 19 people in operations covering 22 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.

The final trial of the case against a person named Ahmet Erinci, on Gaziantep Heavy Penal Court No 7 is held on June 7, 2018. The court sentenced Ahmet Erinci to 6 years and 3 months for “being an illegal organisation member” and released him with a ban on leaving the country.

1 of 8 people who were detained through an Izmir based investigation on May 29, 2018 is arrested by the court on June 7, 2018; 7 people are released on juridical control conditions.

(06/084) Elections on June 24, 2018…

On June 7, 2018 HDP (People’s Democratic Party) members on electoral campaign in Gürpınar district of Van are detained. The names of detainees are: Cevdet Yücel, Mahmut Tam, Ahmet İnce and Yaşar Yıldız. It is learned that 4 people are taken to district Gendarmerie Station, however the reason for detention is unknown.

The police intervened against the campaign stand of HDP members in Güvenpark, Ankara on June 7, 2018. HDP members including Ankara MP candidate Emine Kaya are subjected to physical violence of the police. HDP Ankara MP candidate Emine Kaya stated as following: “Police came to us and said ‘You are distributing leaflets to people by force. Do not distribute leaflets in a wide area’. I told them that we were on electoral campaign and that they were blocking the way instead, the police officer pushed me and punched me in throat”.

It is learned from news coverage of June 7, 2018 that the door of HDP Bolu office was forced and tried to be set on fire by unknown people. It is reported that the fire caused material damage at the office. HDP Bolu co-chair İbrahim Yolci stated that this is the 3rd attack against their office within the last 3 days.

It is learned from news coverage of June 7, 2017 that the flags around the campaign stand of HDP in Ofis district of Diyarbakır are taken off by the police.

It is learned from news coverage of June 7, 2017 that the flags of HDP on Azizoğlu street in Silvan district of Diyarbakır are taken off by the police.

It is learned from news coverage of June 7, 2017 that the flags of several political parties in Atatürk neighbourhood in central district of Tunceli are taken off by the fire crew of municipality which is governed by a trustee, and that AKP (Justice and Development Party) flags were hold instead.

It is learned from news coverage of June 7, 2018 that Mehmet Durgut, sub-governor of Çüngüş district of Diyarbakır, distributed electoral campaign leaflets of AKP during his visits to local shopkeepers. It is learned that HDP members including HDP Istanbul MP Garo Paylan, who were on campaign visits in the same district were followed by official police vehicles based on “security” reasons.

It is learned from news coverage of June 7, 2018 that local electoral board of Cizre district of Şırnak wanted deposition of ballot committee memberships of Confederation of Public Employees Trade Union (KESK) members who volunteered for committee, based on “mistake in assignments”.

It is learned from news coverage of June 7, 2018 that Education and Science Workers’ Union members who volunteered for ballot committees in Bağcılar district of Istanbul, are deleted from the lists before being sent to district electoral board. It is stated in the news reports that CHP (Republican People’s Party) notified the local electoral board and demanded re-assignment of ballot committees.

Human Rights Association have formed Independent Election Monitoring Platform with Association for Monitoring Equal Rights, and made a press declaration on June 7, 2018 to announce that the number of preventions and attacks against electoral campaigns up to June 6, 2018 is 48. It is stated in the declaration that 30 of these preventions and attacks were against HDP, and 6 of them were organized by security forces, 16 of them were organised by civilian groups, 8 of them were other public officials such as municipal police, sub-governor; and it is also stated that 140 people were detained, 8 people were arrested and 3 people got injured due to these preventions and attacks. It is also reported that the number of preventions and attacks against IYI Party is 8, including 1 by security forces, 1 by municipal police, 2 by municipality officials and 3 by civilian groups; and 8 people were detained, and 11 people got injured in these preventions and attacks. The number of preventions and attacks against CHP is 5, and 1 of them was organized by security forces, 3 of them by civilian groups and 1 is by unknown people; and 1 person was detained in these incidents. The number of preventions and attacks against SP (Felicity Party) is 4 including 1 by sub-governorate, and 3 by civilian groups; and 7 people got injured due to these preventions and attacks. It is stated in the declaration that the number of preventions and attacks against AKP is 1.
