(06/061) Person Got Injured Due to Hit by a Police Armoured Vehicle in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that a 70-years old person got heavily injured due to being hit by a police armoured vehicle in Diyarbakır on June 6, 2018. It is learned that the police fired the gun up in the air to intervene the people who protest the incident, and detained the injured person’s grandson by using physical violence.

(06/062) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 6, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 6, 2018, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Mahmut Konuk) and at 18.00 3 people (Eser Budak, Armağan Özbaş and Acun Karadağ) were detained.

Thus in total 6 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 6, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(06/063) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…

On June 6, 2018 the police intervened the press declaration of public labourers in Kadıköy district of Istanbul, who protest the dismissals with the state of emergency decrees, and detained 3 people including HDP MP candidate Sema Uçar.

The police prevented the press declaration organized for the same reason in Bakırköy district, on the grounds that all protests and events are banned in Bakırköy district except the election campaign events.

(06/064) The Case Against Boğaziçi University Students…

The case against 22 students of Boğaziçi University including 14 arrestees, for protesting to say “No celebration delight for massacre” as a response to Turkish delight serving at the school campus to celebrate Afrin operation of Turkish Armed Forces, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 32, started to be held on June 6, 2018.

During defence hearings, some of the students told about the torture they were subjected to after being detained.

The court rejected the demand of students for making an official complaint about the torture they were subjected to, on the grounds that torture happened before prosecution proceedings. After defence hearings the court released 14 arrested students. The court also lifted juridical control conditions on 1 defendant, decided to continue ban on leaving the country for 7 defendants. The court adjourned the trial to a further date.

(06/065) Military Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against specialist sergeant S. K., who caused death of Pakize Hazar (85), for ‘causing death involuntarily’ on Lice Penal Court of First Instance is held on May 23, 2018. The court sentenced specialist sergeant S. K. to 2 years for ‘causing death involuntarily’, and reduced the sentence to 1 year and 8 months and postponed the sentence.

Pakize Hazar died due to being hit by the armoured car driven by specialist sergeant S. K., on Mümin Ağa Street which was closed to traffic, in Lice district of Diyarbakır on June 14, 2017.

(06/066) DBP Co-Chair on Trial…

The case against DBP (Democratic Regions Party) co-chair Mehmet Arslan for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 is held on June 6, 2018. Mehmet Arslan attended the trial via sound and vision system from Rize L Type Prison. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Mehmet Arslan and adjourned the trial to July 16, 2018.

(06/067) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against Cumhuriyet newspaper reporter Canan Coşkun, for publishing a news report titled “14 lawyers of Nuriye and Semih are arrested” on detention and arrest of People’s Law Office lawyers on September 20, 2017, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26 is held on June 6, 2018. After defence hearings the court decided to submit the file case to the prosecutor’s office for legal opinion and adjourned the trial.

(06/068) Newspaper Employees on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trials of the 4 cases against 12 distributors (Burhudan Tulpar, Serdal Polat, Hüseyin Şahin, Ceylan İpek, Ahmet Boltan, Veysi Altın, Engin Özelçi, Azime Tarhan, Yasemin Sayın, Zeynep İzgi, Ferit Toprak and Arap Turan) of Azadiya Welat newspaper which was closed down by the state of emergency decree, on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10, are held on June 6, 2018. The court stated that distributing a newspaper is not a crime and acquitted 12 distributors.

The court sentenced Serdal Polat to 1 year 6 months and 22 days for ‘making propaganda on social media posts’ and postponed the sentence.

(06/069) Magazine Employee on Trial in Adana…

The case against Mevlüt Gür, an employee of Özgür Toplum magazine, for distributing the magazine, on Adana Heavy Penal Court No 12, started to be held on June 6, 2018. After defence hearings the court released Mevlüt Gür and adjourned the trial to October 11, 2018.

(06/070) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 6, 2018, Atilla Korkmaz, former first degree police chief in Ankara, 21 people in Muğla, 17 former police officers who were dismissed by the state of emergency decree in operations covering 2 cities through a Bursa based investigation, 1 person with a detention warrant in Kayseri are detained.

24 of 49 people detained through a Konya based investigation are arrested by the court on June 6, 2018. It is learned that 21 people are released on juridical control conditions and 4 people are still under custody.

(06/071) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against former judges Mehmet Fatih Göksan and Melike Göksan (dismissed by the state of emergency decree), on Adana Heavy Penal Court No 11 is held on June 6, 2018. The court sentenced Mehmet Fatih Göksan to 9 years and 9 months and Melike Göksan to 7 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against Halil İbrahim Akpınar, former governor of Bilecik who was dismissed by the state of emergency decree, on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 16 is held on June 6, 2018. The court sentenced Halil İbrahim Akpınar to 7 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against 63 people for leakage of Police Academy Entrance Exam questions in 2012, on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 15 is held on June 6, 2018. The court sentenced 55 defendants to jail penalties differing from 1 year 6 months and 9 years 7 months. The court acquitted 8 defendants.

The final trial of the case against 7 defendants on Malatya Heavy Penal Court No 1 is held on June 6, 2018. The court sentenced defendants to jail penalties differing from 2 years to 8 years and 9 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘aiding an illegal organisation’.

The final trial of the case against business person Abdullah Demir on Niğde Heavy Penal Court No 2 is held on June 6, 2018. The court sentenced Abdullah Demir to 10 years for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(06/072) Elections on June 24, 2018…

A child named Z. D. (13) is detained for writing “HDP” and “Selo” on the walls of his house in Bursa is detained on June 6, 2018 and is released the same day.

A group of 40 people stopped the campaign vehicle of HDP (People’s Democratic Party) in which HDP Erzincan MP candidate Pınar Aytekin was also present, and assaulted the people in the car verbally in Erzincan on June 6, 2018. It is learned that the police did not intervene the attackers in the crime scene, however wanted HDP members to leave the district.

It is learned that 6 people are detained on June 6, 2018 in house raids in Toroslar and Akdeniz districts of Mersin, on the grounds that they prevent AKP’s (Justice and Development Party) electoral campaign. The names of detainees are: Aziz Durak, Ali Karaman, Saleddin Ateş, Ramazan Kurt, Selim Tomak and Ahmet Yılmaz.

On June 6, 2018, a group alleged to be MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) members attempted to attack HDP members who open a stand for electoral campaign in Güvenpark, Ankara. The police arrived after the attempt and did not intervene the group. The police wanted HDP members to lift the stand, and upon HDP members’ rejection, banned folk dance and leaflet distribution of HDP members.

It is learned from news coverage of June 6, 2018 that HDP flags in Başkale district of Van are taken down and thrown to waste bins by the police.
